Jay Turser, back to one of my favorites. And a TRIPLE pickup
guitar! <y own personal fetish.
I had NO interest in one of these until I was at my local
mom n pop (www.guitarden.com) and saw
one, then I was interested, and then I played one…..
Ahhh Jay, what have ye done to me NOW!
3 pickups, PINK, old style bend up trem! HOW could I resist?
Well at an average price of $249 it was pretty easy!
I mean after all, how many triple pups can you have and not
get redundant! The one I played here locally was taken in on trade, so I could
only assume that everything was stock. The neck felt GREAT, the body was good,
the finish of course, flawless. The sound however, was just OK. If you have
read up on my 7 string or my Agile HHH you can see that I like some variety!
Unfortunately this just didn’t seem to offer that.
So I wasn’t in as much of a hurry to buy one all of a
sudden. Unless of course one were to fall in my lap. Say for $125 shipped? Well
then I think I would just be OBLIGATED to buy one. Especially when I could show
my wife that once you take out shipping it was REALLY only $100 and at$250
retail I was actually SAVING money! Oh the penance I have to do………………..
So when it arrived, I was reminded it was baby blue, not
pink and that the pups are STILL terribly generic. Just NO tone definition at
ALL, no matter WHAT switch position, the same sound came out. Now 3 p-90’s are
basically 3 single coils, so I figured I should at LEAST get a strat type of
variety, nope not here!
Lucky for me, since I had played one already, I wasn’t
terribly surprised, instead I was PREPARED! I had picked up a Gibson P-100 off
ebay, a dream 90 from Guitar fetish and thought I would leave the mid where it
is!
Bad news is that this is only the LATEST in my projects, so
it may BE a WHILE, until this gets put together. However I HAVE decided that
when all is said and done, if the JT P90 just DOESN’T cut it in middle
position, I’m going to buy a GFS Lipstick pup, and see how IT holds up! Should be pretty interesting, if nothing
else!!!!!!
