One of my Wife’s FAVORITE shows is 7th Heaven,
and to be honest, after a while it REALLY started growing on me. So low and
behold one night I sit down and the father figure is playing a Thinline Tele,
and playing it REALLY well.
Now I had NEVER really considered another Tele, I had two
(sort of) and I thought my MIM would really cover my Tele needs and my Squire
really covers every single OTHER base one could ever think of.
So I went off and tried every single tele thinline I could
find!
What I found was that there was a HUGE discrepancy between
Fenders branded Thinlines, and there were SOME that didn’t even LOOK like
tele’s!
So what I ended up with was something that LOOKED like a 69
Tele Thinline with a TC 90 scratch plate. Again knowing the quality of the
Agile’s I knew it was going to be a close race between that and the Jay Turser
Cruizer. Several reasons. The JT’s have better photographs, and show better
grain and color matching, plus they have free shipping.
But one night while trolling EBAY I found this TC 730 in an
unusual color, in EXCELLENT shape, with a SHIPPED price the SAME as the JT
Cruizer. So off went the buy it now, and a week later in comes the Agile.
WOW, that’s all I can say, the neck feels awesome, the
weight is GREAT, even the stock pups are better than I thought I had a right to
expect.
Now for the MOMENT the axe stays stock. That COULD change,
if I could find a set of Tex Mex pups. Or heck MAYBE I’ll get REALLY funky and
leave the lipstick in the neck, put a Hummer in the bridge and maybe a P-90 in
the mid?
Don’t know, that would mean some carving and a new scratch
plate, plus a new base plate, and then there’s always, how about a bigsby? Is
that overkill or wish fulfillment?
Then there is the Fender J5 TRIPLE! Now THAT’S a hot looking
guitar!!!!!
