This guitar was bought on a whim, the price ($125) was right
and the desire to have a PRS clone was HIGH!
Then it arrived.
Now please don’t get me wrong this guitar had enormous
potential! A GREAT bright orange flame finish, a flawless binding a Floyd Rose
bridge, a not so glued in neck……
Yep you read that right, SOMEHOW, and of course the seller
SWORE it didn’t leave his house like this, the neck had come COMPLETELY
unglued. I don’t mean loose, and it wasn’t broken, but it was like the glue had
MELTED.
It was AMAZING. Amazing and absolutely horrifying! I KNEW if
I sent this back I would NEVER find another one at this price. Remember this
was Agiles 1st attempt at a PRS clone and so it was priced REALLY
low, and I got it, JUST as Agiles used prices were starting to go up, people
started to know the name!
So I contacted the seller, sent him some pix, and told him
that since it had come GROUND all the way from California, I could maybe see my way to
SPLITTNIG the cost of the repair, and all would be fair. Glue in a neck how
much could it be?
PLUS, I had an inside tip, although the mom and pop down the
street from me had closed, his BROTHER owned a HUGE music store, on the other
side of town, so I NEW I’d get a good deal- or not.
I should have known something was going to well. I took it
in, with a case, dropped it off and the kid behind the counter “estimated” that
the most it would be was $45 and take about 2 days. This was Wednesday, great
I’ll have it for the weekend! I show up Saturday and they tell me that “the
guy” is out of town!!!!!!!!! I should CALL next Thursday!
SO I did, twice, the 2nd time the guy says the
guitar has been fixed, the glue is drying and it will be ready Saturday. Ok,
how much? $140!!!!!!!!!!!
I can not describe how angry I was that they went $100 over
their quote, made it a week late and never bothered to call me. When I picked
it up, I made SURE to let them know this, and was told that I could have taken
it elsewhere…..So needless to say I have NEVER darkened their doorway again. A
shame really, the 1st guy had been in business 20 years, had a great
reputation and would work with ANYTHING.
Well while I was waiting I had won a pair of PRS Dragon pups
off ebay for $30 each and I REALLY wanted to plop those bad boys in and let
them RIP!
But as I know you’ve ALL experienced, life started
happening, and my desire for something with a nicer top, and maybe a semi
hollow body started creeping in, and when some guy on Harmony Central Offered
me $225 for the guitar, I just could NOT pass it up. Then I told him about my
Dragon pups and my plans for it, and for an extra $125 I’d throw in BOTH pups
and shipping! Well since the pups were going, at that time, for $85 EACH I
guess he realized the opportunity that awaited him, and me, I got to ALMOST
break even.
This really is a nice guitar and I would recommend their PS
line, but if you find someone with a Raven West K2 hollow for sale in blue,
please be sure to let me know! Otherwise I’ll probably break down and get the
real thing one day….
